NYBG

In 2019 while working at AKA, we created the first two permanent NYBG mobile native experiences targeted to enhance guest interaction and education.

Created mobile experiences were meant to transport visitors into different seasons of the Perennial garden and allow them to observe the Conservatory from viewpoints not accessible to the general public. Both apps use 360-degree videos and photography, other related imagery, audio and historical artifacts that allow guests to get an insight into the history and the scientific nature of the locations they visit. Now you can experience both the Perennial Garden’s seasonal transformations and the beauty of the Palm Dome in our immersive mobile guide from the comfort of your home or in person at NYBG.

NYBG mobile native experience

Year-Round uses advanced 360 morphing technology that allows users to morph seasonal garden photography for a seamless peek inside the different views one location experiences during different times of the year. Palm Dome utilizes the same technology allowing for a seamless transition between different height viewpoints of the Conservatory’s Dome. Users can view the dome from the basic floor standpoint, midway to the top overlook of the Conservatory’s interior.

ROBERTO BURLE MARX

The goal
Enhance guest interaction and education for NYBG major 2019 exhibition, Brazilian Modern: The Living Art Of Roberto Burle Marx.

The solution
We created a mobile experience that transports visitors into Roberto Burle Marx’s world. The guide uses interactive elements such as landscape builder, oversight drone mapping photography, a custom build quiz, a large variety of artist-inspired recipes, tips, other related photographs, video, audio and historical artifacts to let guests explore the wonders of the Brazilian living art that inspired the artist firsthand.

Advanced location-aware technology allowed users to engage automatically based on where they stand in the exhibition. The technology also allowed users to share their unique experiences on social media, inviting their peers to attend the exhibition in person and virtually from their homes.

The Living Art Of Roberto Burle Marx mobile experience won a Silver Davey's Award for the Mobile Features/Best Use of GPS & Location Technology in 2019.
